Beloved friends of the salon,

To what extent is consciousness a necessary accompaniment of human-level intelligence? Could we have the latter in a machine without the former? Within the space of possible minds, what does the space of possible kinds of consciousness look like? Can we make or comprehend types of consciousness that are very different from our own or that of other animals? These are some of the fascinating questions that we will consider in our next salon entitled “The Philosophy of Artificial Intelligence and Consciousness.”

We are very luck to have as our guest speaker Murray Shanahan. Dr. Shanahan is Professor of Cognitive Robotics in the Department of Computing at Imperial College London. He is the author of “The Technological Singularity” and is an advisor to the Centre for the Study of Existential Risk at the University of Cambridge.

The salon will be held on my birthday so I hope that you will celebrate with me. I will bake an 18th century inspired cake that we can enjoy together over classical salon music and other delights.
