Perception and Empathy

How can we cultivate empathy and human consciousness? What is the role of the development of individual perception in shaping the collective good? In what ways is empathy necessary for human sociability and sustainable governance? What are the barriers to empathy in the 21st century and how can they be overcome? What philosophical lessons can be learned from indigenous societies in addressing these questions and understanding our relationships to others and the world around us?

In this salon, Bruce Parry, award winning BBC documentarian and indigenous rights advocate, will screen parts of his new film TAWAI and will relate his experiences living with tribal communities around the world and the philosophical lessons he has learned, to illuminate this topic.
