The Illusion of Reality

In this salon we will question the fundamental nature of reality drawing from new theories in philosophy and quantum physics. We will interrogate our underlying assumptions about reality and its relationship to sense perception. We will also question how these assumptions shape cultural narratives and political discourse. We will end by considering how developments in virtual reality may change our perception of reality and the the implications this will have for society.

Unlike most salons, there will not be a speaker, to give participants more time to converse on these questions. At the beginning of the salon participants will be asked to describe an experience in which their sense of reality was changed and how this shaped their understanding of the world.

This article in The Atlantic poses some initial questions to consider.

If the weather is nice this salon will take place over a picnic in Hyde Park! Details to be confirmed upon rsvp.
