Have you ever been obsessed with a person or an idea? Did this obsession inspire you, control you, drive you mad? In this salon we will question the nature of obsessions. We will ponder if they are healthy propelling our art and ideas forward, or if they are extremely dangerous invariably leading to catastrophe. We will discuss the great obsessions in literature and the protagonists’ fates.
The salon will begin with a short talk and piano concert of classical music which was inspired by a passionate love and obsession for another person. We will explore the dramatic story and music behind Johannes Brahm’s torturous love for Clara Schumman amidst her husband, the great Robert Schumann's, descent into insanity and subsequent suicide.
This salon will take place over dinner. Guests are asked so bring a dish to share with others.
